Summers done! I've been working so much lately... i've been waking up super early in order to surf. 2 jobs and school. But i can't complain... i love $$$! The one useful thing my high school taught me was time management... thank goodness. I'm loving college cause its super cruise, and i see the most beautiful women in the world everyday! At the end of summer we went to molokai so my brother could get his drivers license, which in my opinion is pathetic. There were no openings on oahu so we had t go there. I tagged along to go fishing and we caught the mother load!!!!!! by far the best fishing i've ever done!

I literally never go home because i've been out having so much fun. From camping to just plain old parties, i've pretty much done it all. I've been working hard, but at the same time i've been playing hard. A lot of my friends from school are leaving for college soon so i've been trying to spend as much time with them as i can. If they call me to go out, i'm there. I've still been surfing a bunch and i have to say i love it 10 times more here than in cali.

Thanks Kaz for all the pics!! Having fun in Cali but i'm really missing home... I don't surf heats everyday so we have alot of down time to do anything we want! Yesterday we went to K1 Racing which is a go-kart racing arena that we can race in. Super fun... but SUPER competitive! these cars go really fast, so with all the boys in it, it can get pretty gnarly. We send each other into walls and crash into each other. We could easily get hurt, but when money is in it... lets say we all wanna win.

We spend a lot of time in our hotel room because it's so relaxing and chilly. Sometimes we get restless. We call this "Random Brawl" if one of us shouts it out we grapple till someone taps out... fun stuff

Like i said, i have a lot of free time. I bought a fishing pole for 20 bucks and in between heats i go fishing!!! Fishing is so different up here.. i have no clue what i'm catching!!! I broke my pole so i taped it back together :(... I hate walking up the pier with my pole because i learned the girls don't dig fisherman up here... Whatever though... i'm so proud of this fish!

So stoked for my boy Matty Costa who won his first National title in the Explorer Juniors Division!!!!

People say that the walk down to Lowers is a beautiful walk through nature that is really enjoyable. I always rant about this... i say it's BULSHIT. I hate this 1 1/2 mile walk to the ocean. I would do it if i were gonna surf a sick uncrowded wave, but i'm walking to go surf with literally 75 other people. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun wave, but battling for 2 foot waves isn't my thing, and i'm a lazy-ass and don't like walking. I refuse to surf this wave if there's no contest or no camera filming. NOT worth it. haha

USA CHAMPIONSHIPS!

so stoked to win my first national title!! I won the Mens division in the USA championships. It started out at huntington, and the final was held at lower trestles. So stoked!!

I told Kaz that if i won, we could go eat at my favorite restraunt: DENNY'S!!

The good luck hair cut! Called the fo-hawk blow-out mullet... Zeke came up with the idea. When you see this style on the streets you can call me a trend setter.

Big thanks to Kaz's friend for opening up his shop after hours to give us all new hair cuts! This is everyone with their new hair.

HSA State Championships

I did pretty well at states this year with a 1st in the Mens division and a 3rd in the Opens. Despite the gloomy weather and chocolate colored water that smelt like dead rat, the waves were really good. My brother Cole did well by making his first state final and finishing 3rd. It's fun to always see my friends in the finals: Zeke finished 1st and Kaito finished 2nd. Good job everyone!! Here's a sick video Kaz put together of the comp.

after years of hard work, my dad finally caught his first Ulua! For those of you who don't know what that is, basically every fishermen dreams of catching one in their lifetime. It is the biggest shoreline fish you can catch... top of the food chain. Anyway, my dad went to Molokai and caught this 52 lbs monster. Ono sashimi!! Congrats pops.

It seems like when ever we all go diving, who ever doesn't spear anything always finds a Tako on the way in... BS i tell you!!! My brother Cole must have stepped on dog crap, cause he found this monster 3 lbs Tako!!! well for most divers this would be "good sized" so you can only imagine what we thought: GIANT SQUID!!!! lucky bastard. haha

I found this picture on the internet and the story behind it was that this tiger shark was being aggressive, so the divers shot it as a means of self defense. I'm not an advocate of shooting sharks or any creature other than what you're gonna eat, but i would shoot that thing with out hesitation if it showed me its teeth. It's kinda sad, but as a surfer it feels a little better...

Ocean Expo 2011

Worked at the Ocean Expo at the Blaisdell this weekend so i didn't surf too much. It was super fun though hanging out with all the reps... We always find stupid funny stuff to do in order to kill time. This time we built airplanes and spent at least 5 hours doing $.25 bets to see whose could fly furthest; i lost 5 bucks worth of quarters :/ I checked out a bunch of different spearguns and was so tempted to buy one... I figured that i should wait and get could with the stuff i got.

Got a chance to dive on saturday for a little while after the show with the Monizs and Gen. We got a couple Aholehole, Aweoweo, and Kole. Somehow on the way in, after not catching anything the whole time, Gen found "moving rocks" he poked it and it was a pretty big Tako (for us 2 pounds is big). I'm not sure what kind of fairy tale he told you about how he wrestled with it and bit it inbetween the eyes to kill it... but i'm here to tell you how it REALLY went down: bottom line is he was too scared to grab it so he made Isaiah walk about 100 yards to come and help him. HAHA! either way, good eyes Gen... don't let his asian-eyes fool you...

This was Waikiki (Publics) in 2006. I remember this swell because i was just learning how to surf. My Dad and I tried to paddle out to Big Rights on our Costco boards and got annihilated! Now that i can surf a bit better i hope this summer produces some fatty swells!!! so far spring has been good! fingers crossed!

Night Fishin'

Took the boys out fishing at night yesterday. There were people at our spot, but once they saw the little tribe of kids running down the hill like hooligans they dug out, leaving the whole place for us... We didn't catch much.. Seth and Gen speared a couple Wekes and that was it. We always find something entertaining to do, and it just so happens that we have a few pyrotechnicians that love fire... one of which being the kid who burnt his hand off last summer (my brother). They built a little bon-fire, and like savages poked sticks through our fish and roasted them.. unscaled. not gutted.

Josh Moniz ran away with all the fish like hungry sealion and ate them in a little corner by himself... we asked if he would share, but he growled at us. haha nah jus kidding, we all ate some.

Holy Crap Gas is expensive on the outer islands!

Im on spring break and there's just too much wind!!!! it's making the waves all blown out... soooo i decided to go fish. For the first time ever i saw a shark on the reef at ala moana in like 2 feet of water... it was a small reef shark but it still spooked the shit outta me!!!

I sure hope everyone is okay in Japan. Im sure everyone already knows about all the destruction from the earthquake. I heard about some crazy miracle stories of finding missing people who had been trapped for days...For all the people that were lost, i hope just as many, if not more miracles occur. I'm super stoked that Hawaii dodged trouble again. I actually got up and went to school! I didn't believe everyone when they said there was none! I felt pretty dumb...We ended up surfing on Friday since there was no school.. Tides and currents were CRAZY from all the surges. Surfed all day saturday, and on sunday my Dad and I went fishing and Diving in Kaneohe Bay... Fun weekend! 9 weeks till i graduate!!! SCARY!!!

We're getting BETTTTTTERRRRR! heres what we've got these past couple weeks.

Been surfing a bunch.. surfed fun Off the Wall and Backdoor this past weekend but broke 2 boards... i guess those waves and i have a love-hate relationship... when i get a good one i love it, but when i fall, i fall harrrrrrd! other than that i've just been trying to eat healthy and work out, tryin to get ready for some up coming contests that i reallly wanna do well in. I think diving is really gonna help my confidence in bigger waves. I'm learning to hold my breath longer underwater and stay calm. My dive partners are the Monizs, my bro, and Gen Asano. We all look out for each other and are stoked when we see each other catch stuff. Its just like surfing, we are always pushing each other to get better. We all look up to their uncle Kirby who rips on board, and also is unreal with a spear. He inspires me, and im sure everyone else to go pro in surfing and also be able to put dinner on the table with a spear. Waves were flat again so i decided to go diving after school. Met up with the Monizs and Gen and went to our spot... gosh we're so hooked on diving right now!!! i used to think about surfing during class... now i think about diving!!! haha surfing is always first though. Any way, my good friend let me use his spear gun so i was super excited to try it... Its really big (130) and i had no clue as to how hard it would shoot. He gave me a really small gun that i've been getting good with, and i assumed this would be similar. As soon as we got out i cocked BOTH rubbers ALLLLL the way back (which is super hard) and right a way saw a good sized Moana that i figured would be perfect to shoot and see how it shot. I aimed with my arm outstretched in front of my face and shot... "WHAM!!!!" ... no not the fish.. me! The gun recoiled with so much power that the back of it smashed straight into the side of my mouth. My mouth was bleeding and my teeth felt really weird. Turns out the tooth on the left of my top big front tooth got sent behind it and the my front tooth got pushed forward and and a little down. It felt like i broke my cheek bone as well!! OH and i didn't get the fish... But i wasn't dying so i stayed out anyway and dove till dark. We ended up catching a couple kole, moana, and aholehole. Went to the dentist and he said there's nothing we can do but wait. He said my tooth my die. it's a good thing i have amazing looks to make up for the tooth hahahaha, just look at the picture!!

Well fishing hasn't really been working out for my friends and i... we figure, if we cant catch um, we're gonna shoot em!!! haha we aren't those guys who you see on Hawaii Skin Diver, or even close to the average recreational diver... we are the kids you see diving in board shorts, with only one left footed fin, and the Sports Authority special three-prong. We're all shame to walk on the beach with our ghetto gear, especially when we see a group of pretty girls... we have turn around and walk around so they don't see us. We started out catching 2-3 fish in a whole dive session... but after about 4 months, this is where we're at! not bad eh? you should see the look of the fisherman when we walked out of the water with these on our stringer!!!!

How sick is this?! Somewhere in Europe i think in Basque or something, they made this prototype of a man made wave. IT came out pretty good... sick reeling chest high wave in a land-locked area. This is cool because places that have flat surf for most of the year and places that are landlocked can now have something to surf. Check out the video on surfline!

in one of my finals, on my second wave, i knocked out the fins on my board on the reef.... in my second final i broke my leash on my first wave... super stoked.... my luck changed after the contest when we were looking for waves. We saw a wave super far away from the road and decided to go check it out... just so happened that Kelly slater, Benji Weatherly, and Shane Dorian were about to paddle out. "wow" was all i could say. I surfed for about 45 min and decided to come in and watch some of the greatest surfers in the world do their thing. priceless.

Big Island NSSA part 1 (Gen's Emergency)

The second to last stop of the NSSA Hawaii series took place at "Banyans" on the Big Island. Our travel crew consisted of myself, cole, my mom, gen asano, and kai matsumoto. We were all super excited to catch some waves because none of us had surfed the spot before.... but i guess Gen got a little over excited when he stabbed himself in the head with his skeg. haha. it really isn't a laughing matter, but i thought it was hilarious. i saw the whole thing happen... he went for a super gnarly rodeo flip and..... nah nah more like a mis-timed turn and the board landed on his head. For some reason most people get hurt on junk waves or doing stupid stuff. I gave Gen alot of crap... but he took 3 staples in his head WITHOUT the numbing shot...so he's kinda nutz...so i guess i'm sorry Gen. here is a video for you to re-live your first surfing injury... nuts guy.

This weekend had the BEST surf i have ever seen on the east side. On friday, Sandies was about 6 feet and CLEAN!!! Too bad there were 50 guys out, but it was still fun. No one wanted to film that session because it was so good! On Saturday, I picked up Josh, Seth, and Gen and we all surfed some super sketchy waves that don't normally break. Not too many people were out because dry reef sticks out all over the place. We all took turns filming each other... It was super funny because at first everyone was avoiding the reef, but eventually we all started pushing each other and started riding over it and into it!!

This winter break just flew by!!! i just started school again, but im sick today so i'm doing this instead of studying for my finals next week. The waves weren't the typical big north shore waves we all expected, so my friends and i skipped a couple days of surf to go fishing and diving. Heres a little video... haha

Haleiwa International Open

I decided to try surf the Mens division this year along with the normal Juniors Division. It was really fun because i got to surf against all my friends... The waves were a fun 2-4 feet with rippable rights and lefts. The water was all "doodoo" brown from all the rain, so when i sat on my board i couldn't see my feet. I made some heats and lost in the Repo... Kind of a bummer, but it was still fun, all i did that heat was try to punt airs... kinda stupid. haha. I made my brother enter this division as well, so i'm stoked he made a heat. Everyone was ripping and put on a good show for all the tourists and other beach-goers. I'm not sure if this was Greg or Nick's Camera, but here's some still shots from the video (i think that's what it is). Thanks for the photos both of you!!!

Here's me in that last heat going for it... I was following the modo: "Go big, or go home" unfortunately i did both.... went big AND went home. haha

Zeke was the MVP in my book. I thought he was the best surfer hands down today. He is so confident and strong, and it shows in his surfing. I know he works hard to be at the level he's at.... definitely one of my favorite surfers.

Nick Mita was killing it.... as usual. haha, he also rips and is such a nice guy. He's always helping out my brother and I. We're always super stoked to cruise with him

Cole surfed pretty good, considering he was one of the youngest in this division...

Greg RIPS. most underground ripper i know! i saw him smashing dreams at the 4 star HIC Pro and i watch him rip when i free surf with him! He's one of the people i look up to, super cool guy, he has a family, a job, and still keeps his surfing dreams alive.

Island of Squirrels

We've been missioning it down to the east side to surf the north swell... For the sake of secrecy, we'll call the wave we surfed the island of squirrels. The paddle out is over a mile and we cross waters deeper than 30 feet.. SKETCHY!! It's worth it though!! long roping rights with a minor crowd. We went there the past 2 days with a crew consisting of my brother and I, josh and seth moniz, and kaito kino. GOOD FUN!

Week 1 Update

A week of Christmas break has already flown by! it feels so fast, but when i look back, i've been milking everyday for what its worth. Since my last post we've been pummeled with continuous rain and the surf hasn't been all to great. One of the days I spent surfing backdoor with my friend Matty... I had Winterball the next day so he came shopping with me to help me find something to wear. Of course he would try to make me look as "Gangster" as possible by choosing a thick, black, velvet interiored suit coat, rather than a normal long-sleeved collared shirt. So.... i got it. My outfit consisted of some regular skate shoes, black faded jeans, a plain white T, and to top it all off, my black coat. Pretty Gangsta. haha I ended up having a good time.
The next couple days i spent with my Mom, which i haven't done in a while. We went out to the north shore where she would film us surfing, and later scour the beach for shells, primarily a sunrise shell. Had a really nice time with her.

Since the surf has been down we've been teaming up with the Monizs', Gen Asano, and friends to go diving and fishing. We have a little secret spot that has consistently provided some small fish to take home. We ended up catching a bunch of Aweo'weo, a weke, flounder, aholehole, a couple nenue, and a kole. We took it back to the Monizs' house where Seth cooked everything up. It tasted awesome, and what made it better was the fact that WE caught it. All of us are usually surfing all day, everyday, so it's nice to see everyone doing something else and having fun. One image that is stuck in my brian is seeing Josh Moniz diving all day and spearing the crappiest trash-fish. Of all the times we went diving i have never seen him spear anything... so i guess he was stoked on those fish.... but right before we were gonna leave he said he wanted to try again. 2 minutes later i ear this triumphant shout. We all look and see a nice fat Aweo'weo wiggling at the end of his spear. I'll never forget that smile. His first "good" fish. It looked like he just won the world title.... He was so excited and through his giddy chuckles kept retelling the story of how he snuck up on it over and over again. A minute later he speared another one. MVP goes to Josh... And for the record: Cole sucks. he didn't catch a single fish in 4 hours. nuff sed. haha

Today was a MISSION! i'm not supposed to talk about it because it makes us look like idiots, but since the Makaha contest was canceled and because we were up already, my friend Zeke and i thought we should go surf country... i told him it would be 3 ft, but it was as flat as a lake.... backdoor wasn't even breaking. So i guess it's my fault... he calls it a "Rookie Mistake" ... stupid... haha. Ended up driving alllllllllllllll the way back to town and surfed crappy kewalos... die hard kine... it was so bad. Later i helped work at a sample sale... it's always fun hanging out with the surf-reps... good timezz.

day 1 of winter break!

Started off winter good with a fun-filled day! i didn't waste a single minute!! My friend Kaito came to my house in the morning and we surfed at Ala Moana for about 3 hours! the waves were about chest-high and really rippable! My brother still had school (haha) so i had to pick him up... I was kinda over surfing again so i raced home to grab my fishing poles! My brother was amping to surf so he went surfing while kaito and I went to a secret spot to go fish.. You may have seen the video Kaz posted on Novusswell about my failed fishing plan, but honestly.... you just saw me on an off day... Kaito hooked up to this mutated monster of a fish!!! It was quite a battle to get it in!! the line got stuck twice in the reef so i had to run over to free it. Each time i was sooo scared i would find the end of the line all slack because it cut, but i guess KAito did a good job... or was lucky haha... either way, good teamwork and we eating FISHCAKE TONIGHT!!!

so psyched for winter break!!! Cole and I are staying out at my Great Grandma's Beach house on the north shore!!! My sickest "GO-To" surf spot is 10 steps down the beach!! We dubbed it "Grammies" haha... anyways, i was thinking that there are company houses like the Volcom house, Oneill House, etc, so this could be the "Pupu Kine house"... Away from the craziness of the 7 mile miracle, there's a bunch of good breaks and are only 10 minutes away from pipe and all the other main breaks. So i'm gonna grab some of my friends to stay there when we decide to stay out there!! should be fun!! surf all day, film sessions, fishing, and most importantly, just kicking back and relaxing!!

I know there has been a couple real good swells to kick off the winter season, however, i always have to work on the day that has swell!!! haha i work at Drift Surf on Sundays which coincidentally is the day of all the swells. Anyway, i've been going up there a bunch and surfing small off the wall/ backdoor/ pipe/ sandbar... the whole stretch, but haven't got it over 4 feet yet... heres some photos that my friend Mikela took of me and cole's 8 hour session at sandbar.

THE CASTLE

A sweet check in the end makes it allllllll worth it!

Wow its been a super stressful week! i skipped 4 out of 5 days of school last week to compete in the HIC Pro... Since the contest i've been playing MAJOR catch up with all my school work... but, i think its worth it! The waves were pretty fricken huge!! through out the event it stayed in the solid 8-10 ft range with 12 ft bombs (hawaiian scale) every once in a while. I got absolutely murdered billions of times when i would ditch my board b/c the wave broke in front of me. I did alright, and made it to the round of 32. I got real lucky in every heat just scratching by in the dying minutes. I learned a lot and im glad i got to experience what it feels like to compete against the "big dogs". My friends all did really well too: Keanu killed it to a 3rd place finish!!! Greg Nakamura was the spoiler/ dark horse and ripped it through some rediculously hard heats to make the quarters! Good job to Zeke for making the money round, and thanks for caddying for me. I told my school i was sick the whole time, but i guess word got out..I had a bunch of classmates, friends, sponsors, and teachers keeping track of my heats and im really stoked about how supportive they were! Thanks to everyone who cheered me on and gave me advice, i really appreciate it.

One of the worlds favorite, and most influential surfer in the world passed away a few days ago. The entire surf community around the world is in complete shock. I still can't believe it, it's hard to process that one of my favorite surfers died. I'm sure i'm not the only one who feels this way, but when i heard the news i was heart broken, and felt as if he was a close friend who passed away... My condolences go out to his wife and family. A.I. will never be forgotten

This past weekend i was kinda bummed that i didn't get to go cheer on everyone on the South shore team at the Redbull Rivals contest. It's okay though because they were all ripping and WON!!! Instead of being there i was on the Big Island up in the mountains at KMC (Kilauea Military Camp). I didn't expect to have that much fun, but i ended up having a blast! We were seperated into teams picked at random and there were a bunch of kids that i don't normally hang out with, but i ended up having a great time and being an awesome team!! We competed in a whole days worth of physical challenges/activities against different teams. I was on Team "Dark Blue Beef Stew" (don't ask about the name), and we lost our first 2 challenges... BUT we came back and won all 6 events after! I think we finished in 3rd. We had to dress CRAZY, make a team flag, and make a team cheer. I was pretty dead by the time i got home...

This past weekend was the NSSA contest at Sunset. The waves were a fun 4-6 ft with couple bigger sets. I made both my finals, and ended up 3rd and 6th. I love these contests because i get to surf against my friends, who all rip and push me. I'm stoked that my brother is finally surfing again!! Big thanks to the Maeda family who let my brother,kaito,kaz,and i stay at their house over the weekend. I got to eat some meannnnn curry + i didn't have to wake up at 5 AM to drive from town. Super fun weekend!

HANAPAA!!! I finally caught a good sized papio!! This was Anthony's last full day on Oahu before heading out to Portland for college, so i told him we'd go camp it out and go for the "pole benda"! We caught Oama and used them for live-bait... sure enough our hard work paid off as BOTH OF US hooked up to these two beauties within 2 minutes of each other!

my friends and i are starting up a company called "pupu kine", which in our definition is an adjective meaning everything and anything positive... an example of it in everyday use would be- (if the waves were good) "the waves were pupu kine today!!" or "that was a pupu kine session i had today"
Our brand stands out because it's deep rooted in positive vibes. The name pupu kine is tied closely to local culture here in hawaii, but at the same time the message is intended relate to peoples world wide. The economy is down, unemployment is high, and spirits are low; we don't need excess negativity in the world. We believe that we should be spreading positivity. The members of the pupu kine ohana have a positive outlook on life and stay true the saying: pupu kine, stay positive...

today we did a sign waving activity to promote the word pupu kine... our goal is to get the phrase mixed into everyday conversations. We started out at Kapiolani park, and made our way to Hawaii Kai. I think we got our message out. :)

Despite having a top notch room, our mission was to fish... and fish we did.. we roughed it out sleeping on the beach while our pole were out... this is around 2 a.m.

i along with a few of my other friends were lucky enough to be invited by my friend Anthony Young on a fishing trip in Kona, which was provided by his uncle as a graduation present. This was by far the most luxurious resort i have ever stayed at. We had a private Suite in the shape of a hut, got FREE breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets with foods i've never eaten before (lobster tails, Opaa, Opakapaka, just to name a few), and nice secluded, fish filled grounds. It was a once in a life time experience, and i had a great time! thanks Anthony's uncle, and Anothony!

ANOTHER accident

I swear cole and i are cursed! every time we start feeling confident with our surfing, we get hurt! it's super frustrating because despite the fact that we try to take our vitamins and eat our fruits and vegetables, we can't evade injury! injuries happen to all athletes but i feel that we get hurt more than others, and at the worst possible times...So far this year, i got stitches in my foot, broke and dislocated my ankle, and yesterday i threw out my back pretty bad. They say bad luck happens in 3's so i'm hoping that this unlucky streak has reached an end. Even worse than all of my injuries, my brother just recently got 2nd and 3rd degree burns all over his hand due to a cooking mishap. He was surfing so good and improving so much! He got 4th in the Ripcurl Gromsearch, and i just saw him on Billabong Surf T.V.... but OF COURSE he gets hurt. That's our life story.

sorry it's been so long, since i got back from cali i've been trying to surf as much as possible in order to make my ankle stronger. A little recap on my trip was that i made a heat in the open mens!!! unbelievable considering i hadn't surfed for 5 weeks and my ankle still hurt like a b%tch! i had to take 3 advils prior to each heat to keep myself from crying like a baby. Overall it was a real good trip; i made some new friends, accomplished my goal of making a heat, and i got to see competitive surfing differently; from a coaches perspective. Big thanks to Kaz sano and Geoff wong for taking care all us kids up there!

There was a contest at huntington for kids 16 years old and under, so i wasn't able to do it. It's a unique contest in which surfers surf a 15min. heat and are only scored on one wave, which they have to claim (throw your hands up high. My brother won a heat and made $100, so he's stoked!!!

i've had the worst of luck going into nationals with my broken ankle... however idid try to go out and to my suprise, i stoked myself out and did a couple turns after 5 weeks of no surf... i'm super stoked to be up here with all my friends and cheering everyone from hawaii on. Congrats to our friend and room buddy, Mahina Maeda who was just crowned the explorer girls national champ! Kaito made it to the quarters in his explorer division and cole lost in his 2nd round. This week is the USA Championships... my brother is our last man still in (besides mahina) and just won his 2nd heat and is on the way to the quarter finals!! this is his first time in cali, and is KILLING IT! he surfs again on sunday in the 3rd heat so he surfs at 11:00 am Cali time and 8:00 am Hawaii time. I finally finished school!! super stoked! when i return next year i'm going to be a senior! it's crazy how time flies! well i haven't surfed for almost 4 weeks now, and my foot is slowly getting better. i'm off crutches, but i think it's still gonna be another week till i'm back on a board. I've been occupying myself by fishing and training pretty much everyday. Summer has been off to a fairly good start considering how many fish i've been pulling up! I'm trying to stay positive with this injury because i know it could have been a lot worse, and that there are people that will never walk again in their life, so i'm thankful. I wanna thank my friends Anthony, James, and my brother for being my fishing patnas!

Our friend and JPSA professional surfer Nick Mita has really been helping us out! He's so supportive us, and always offers us advice and opportunities to help us out. We've always looked up to him, and i remember watching him at Cliffs (i suck on that wave) and thinking, "How on earth is he killing it here!?" i swear it's the weakest wave in Hawaii! Anyway, he hooked up my brother with a wet suit sponsor called Zero one wet suits! The suits are super sick and he's all set for nationals in Cali. Cole was so stoked that right after we picked up the suits, he wore it 10 minutes later! He told me they're super comfortable and that he feels like he surfs better in it. Thanks so much Nick!! Good luck with JPSA!!

HOWEVER, there's still some hope it'll heal before then, SO what you guys can do to really help me out is just take a little time to send me some good vibes! every bit helps! Dear my fellow school teachers,
I honestly hope you aren't reading this because then you would know i had to play "hooky" for the last two days in order to compete in the HSA surfing state championships. Well here's my explanation for my absence: It's kinda a big deal to me, and every other surfer out there because obviously IT IS STATES, and top finishers are invited to California for the USA Championships. I was told that Iolani doesn't really consider surfing a sport; therefore i wouldn't be excused from school. So, i hope you understand that of course, i wouldn't risk asking. I had to take matters into my own hands... And not that it matters to you or anything, i made the FINAL and QUALIFIED, like i wanted too, so i think it was definitely worth every bit of crap i will get upon returning to class.
